Rosenthal Thoughts: Prior, Mulder, Green, Sanders

The latest from Ken Rosenthal includes some notes about some injured pitchers and aging outfielders.

  • Rosenthal says that the Padres are going to take things slow with Mark Prior. He’s scheduled to throw off the mound soon and will likely start 2008 on a rehab assignment before joining the team in May.
  • The Cardinals are so pleased with Mark Mulder’s progress in his return from rotator cuff surgery that they have stopped looking for pitchers on the open market.
  • Shawn Green and Reggie Sanders are both ready to call it quits unless a team from the West Coast comes calling and both are running out of options for teams in the market for outfielders.
  • Rosenthal says that the Astros ability to sign another starter, like Livan Hernandez or Kyle Lohse, hinges on the outcome of arbitration cases with Loretta and Valverde.
  • The Phillies used all their money on signing Feliz, so now they’re out of the running for Lohse.
  • The Cubs don’t want to include Pie in any deal for Brian Roberts, but if the Orioles take on the contract of Marquis, they’d be willing to give more on their side of the deal.
